Wales TUC wants sick pay enhancement scheme to be made permanent

Two thirds of people who were sick in the last year carried on working

I’m Matt Rosser with news that a survey by the Wales TUC has shown that two thirds of people who were sick in the last year carried on working. The trade union body – which represents around 400,000 workers in Wales - says this shows the sick pay system is failing workers and is a danger to public health. While the powers relating to Statutory Sick Pay are not devolved, the Welsh Government established a sick pay enhancement scheme during the pandemic which is due to expire at the end of June. Trades unions are now calling on the Welsh Government to make this scheme permanent, and for it to cover all types of sick leave.
