Support for Scotland's unpaid carers

Anyone providing over 35 hours of care per week to people receiving certain disability benefits will receive an additional £500 a year

I’m James Macdonald with news that the Scottish Government is looking to improve support for Scotland’s unpaid carers. Under a new proposal The Scottish Carer’s Assistance will replace Carer’s Allowance, and will be provided through Social Security Scotland rather than DWP. Anyone providing over 35 hours of care per week to people receiving certain disability benefits will receive an additional £500 a year. The consultation has been opened by Scotland’s Minister for Social Security and Local Government, Ben Macpherson MSP.  We’ll keep you up to date on this and other stories here on Care Radio.
