NHS Volunteer Responders program to chat to isolated, lonely people

GPs and other healthcare workers can recommend anyone they feel is socially isolated, or would benefit from a chat with a friendly voice

I'm Matt Jones with news that over a thousand volunteers have signed up to have phone chats with patients who are vulnerable, isolated or lonely. The phone calls are part of the NHS Volunteer Responders' Check In and Chat service. GPs and other healthcare workers can recommend anyone they feel is socially isolated, or would benefit from a chat with a friendly voice. The NHS volunteer programme was set up during the pandemic to help people who were self-isolating with everyday tasks like shopping and getting to medical appointments. For more care stories, stay with us here on Care Radio.
