I'm John Warburton. It's being reported that, across the first two-and-a-half years of the pandemic, stress has caused more NHS staff absences in England than Covid infections. That’s according to analysis by Observer journalists, who’ve looked at NHS sickness figures from March 2020 to last September. Stress-related absences totalled 15.4m working days, against 9.8m days lost from Covid. And more than three-quarters of junior doctors answering another survey say they’ve felt unwell from work-related stress in the past year.
