GPs will soon be able to order cancer diagnostic tests rather than waiting for referrals

GPs will soon be able to directly order CT scans, ultrasounds or brain MRI scans for patients with concerning symptoms but who don't qualify for urgent referrals

I'm Matt Jones with news that the NHS in England says that tens of thousands of cancers could be detected sooner each year as a result of fast-track testing. GPs will soon be able to directly order CT scans, ultrasounds or brain MRI scans for patients with concerning symptoms but who don't qualify for urgent referrals. Around one in five cancers are detected after routine testing following referral to a specialist, but GPs will soon be able to order these tests themselves. For more care news stories stay with us here on Care Radio.
