Genetic test to prevent hearing loss in babies

The test can identify in under half an hour whether a baby could be vulnerable to hearing loss if they are given a common emergency antibiotic

I'm Matt Jones with news that a new genetic test to establish whether newborn babies can be given a particular antibiotic has been recommended for use by the medicines regulator in the NHS. The test can identify in under half an hour whether a baby could be vulnerable to hearing loss if they are given a common emergency antibiotic. It's a world-first for the University of Manchester and Manchester University NHS trust. The test could save the hearing of up to 200 babies in England every year. For more care news, stay with us here on Care Radio.
