Drone-delivered chemo cuts time and cost

Doses will be flown directly from Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust to St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight

I’m Matt Rosser with news that NHS cancer patients are set to become the first people in the world to receive their chemotherapy via a drone, as part of major new trial announced yesterday on the health service’s 74th birthday. Given the short shelf life of some of the doses, chemotherapy can be challenging to transport, so it will be flown directly from Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust to St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight, reducing the usual delivery time from four hours to just 30 minutes and saving at least two car journeys and one hovercraft or ferry crossing.
