I'm John Warburton with news that there’s a new warning from doctors that a cancer emergency is coming to the UK because of ever-increasing delays to treatment. Four clinicians writing in The Lancet Oncology Journal claim Britain has what they call a cancer “survival gap” compared with many other countries, because the gap between diagnosis and the start of treatment is getting longer. They’ve called for “short-term action … to save lives now” in addition to new NHS workforce plans. An NHS spokesperson says the service is already investing billions to meet increased demand.
