£150m for mental health crisis support - but is it enough?

The Royal College of Nursing says the reforms won’t work unless there’s significant investment in the mental health nursing workforce

I'm John Warburton with news that there’s been a qualified welcome to government plans to reform the Mental Health Act, and inject £150m into mental health care. Downing Street says the changes should give patients more control over their care and treatment, including tackling the four-times greater chance of Black people being detained under the Act, compared to white people. £7m of the newly announced money will go toward specialist mental health ambulances. But The Royal College of Nursing says the reforms won’t work unless there’s significant investment in the mental health nursing workforce.
