Treatment for drug and alcohol abuse gets £421m boost

The Department of Health and Social Care says the funds should be aimed at recruiting support staff, giving better treatment, and improving residential or inpatient detoxification

I'm John Warburton with news that professionals caring for patients misusing drugs and alcohol are set to benefit from an extra £421m earmarked for treating addictions over the next two years. The Department of Health and Social Care says the funds should be aimed at recruiting support staff, giving better treatment, and improving residential or inpatient detoxification. Staff are expected to be able to give wider treatment including for cannabis abuse which the government says is the most common substance for which young people receive treatment. The new funding is set to roll out to 150 local authorities in England.
