Study urges collaboration between NHS and faith leaders

The study recommends closer working between professions including holding case conferences between clergy, psychiatrists, and doctors, at which a patient’s faith is recognised as an important part of their healing journey

I’m Matt Rosser with news that training for NHS staff to help patients’ spiritual needs has been urged following a study initiated by the Bishop of London, the Rt Revd Sarah Mullally who is a former Chief Nursing Officer for England. The study in Brent, and Kensington and Chelsea in London saw faith leaders from the Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Christian, and Jewish communities offered training to build their confidence in mental health, whilst NHS staff had training in understanding patients’ faith needs. The study recommends closer working between professions including holding case conferences between clergy, psychiatrists, and doctors, at which a patient’s faith is recognised as an important part of their healing journey. For more care related stories stay with us here at Care Radio
