Steam locomotive named in honour of carers

The engine, built in 1916, runs on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway in North Yorkshire and is now called “Nightingale and Seacole”

I’m John Warburton with news of a new honour for nurses, as a steam locomotive takes on a new name. The engine, built in 1916, runs on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway in North Yorkshire and is now called “Nightingale and Seacole”, recognising Florence Nightingale and British-Jamaican nurse Mary Jane Seacole’s work during the Crimean War. The locomotive’s owner Simon Middleton says the naming will honour the contribution and sacrifice of internationally educated and ethnic minority nurses across the Covid crisis. We’ll update you on news every day, here on Care Radio.
