Scientists find virtual museum tours could help older people’s wellbeing

Scientists say there’s growing evidence that visiting museums virtually, with an on-line tour, makes elderly participants healthier

I'm John Warburton with news that scientists say there’s growing evidence that visiting museums virtually, with an on-line tour, makes elderly participants healthier. A study published this week in Frontiers of Medicine brings results from researchers at McGill University in Canada. They studied 106 older adults, sending half on weekly virtual museum visits. The scientists claim the results included significantly reduced physical frailty, and brought improved feelings of social inclusion, wellbeing and quality of life. After the experiment, the six researchers made sure the control group members, who didn’t go on the tours, were all given free access to professional museum guides anyway. Read the original research here.
