Police under investigation after disabled man dies following care home incident

Two Sussex Police officers attended the home in St Leonards, East Sussex, on June 21, after reports of a resident with dementia having a knife, and threatening staff

I'm John Warburton with news that police who used force in a care home against a man who later died are under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct. Two Sussex Police officers attended the home in St Leonards, East Sussex, on June 21, after reports of a resident with dementia having a knife, and threatening staff. Police chiefs said on Thursday (August 4th) the officers used spray, a baton and a taser, after seeing 93 year old Donald Burgess, who was in a wheelchair and had only one leg. He died three weeks later in hospital from unknown causes. The officers are also under criminal investigation for manslaughter, and have been served notices of gross misconduct, Sussex Police added.
