Plea to recognise role of unpaid carers helping people with ME or CFS

"Unpaid carers have been “the driving force behind changes to treatment & research for ME and CFS”, but their needs have been ignored

I'm John Warburton with news of a plea to recognise the role of unpaid carers helping people with ME or CFS. It’s being claimed that unpaid carers are being left out of government pledges to improve treatments, research and care for people with ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. That’s according to a BMJ letter from a leading academic in ageing and family care. Dr. Siobhan O’Dwyer of the University of Exeter says unpaid carers have been “the driving force behind changes to treatment & research for ME and CFS”, but their needs have been ignored. She adds that changes in how the condition is investigated and treated are welcome, but “without a focus on unpaid carers, the puzzle will always be missing a piece”.
