I’m John Warburton, with an update on possible reasons why last year saw a nearly 5 per-cent rise in the number of people detained under the Mental Health Care Act in England. The BMJ report suggests that community mental health services are key to reducing hospital admissions—but the pandemic had restricted access to them. What’s more, the Care Quality Commission believes the figures we’re getting are an underestimate. Official stats say more than 53 thousand people were detained, and that’s just for England. We’ll keep you up-to-date on this and other developments, here on Care Radio.
