For the first time one third of doctors and a quarter of nurses working in the NHS in England are of non-UK nationality
I’m Matt Rosser with news that for the first time one third of doctors and a quarter of nurses working in the NHS in England are of non-UK nationality. Saffron Cordery, interim chief executive of NHS Providers said the milestone shows “just how much our severely understaffed NHS relies on dedicated people from all over the world ”. The Nuffield Trust has warned that the NHS shouldn’t become over reliant on overseas staff. The Department of Health and Social Care said International recruitment is only one part of their plans to grow the NHS workforce, and the supply of homegrown staff is increasing.
