The council's financial position is deemed too fragile to go ahead, because the permits would amount to an "unsustainable subsidy".
I'm Matt Jones with news that a call for carers to get free public transport in Suffolk has been rejected because the council doesn't have the money to pay for it. The idea was to give free travel permits for all those in receipt of a carer's allowance. But, while the work of Suffolk's carers was acknowledged, the council's financial position is deemed too fragile to go ahead, because unless a travel company were to provide free travel, the permits would amount to an "unsustainable subsidy".
