Three quarters of patients waiting over 12 weeks for treatment
I’m James Macdonald with news that waiting lists for surgery in NHS Lothian have increased by 80% in two years. Lothian MSP Miles Briggs said waiting times for operations, such as knee and hip operations, have become extremely long, with three quarters of patients waiting over 12 weeks for treatment. “The longer people can't have these operations, they have to stop working and their careers are destroyed, so there is a real tragedy to these statistics."Tracey Gillies, medical director for NHS Lothian, said: “Significant work is under way to reduce waiting times as part of national efforts following the pandemic".
