New NHS blood transfusion method begins to save lives

I'm John Warburton with news that a new development to help NHS staff save lives with blood transfusions could be a step closer. Researchers from Queen Mary University in London with Barts Health NHS Trust believe they’ve found a way to combine red blood cells and plasma in a single bag, for a single transfusion. First studies show the survival rate after 24 hours was 1.5 times that of patients not given plasma. The scientists say it’s now time for wider trials.
