The five biggest UK children's charities want to see the introduction of a "child lock" ensuring benefits always rise
I'm Paul Hutton with news that the new government must commit to eradicating child poverty, that's the message from the five biggest UK children's charities. They want to see the introduction of a "child lock", a law that would ensure that the benefits parents receive from the state would always rise rather than be subject to economic conditions and politics. Recent figures show that there are now 4.3 million children living in poverty in the UK, a rise of a hundred thousand from the previous year. In an average classroom of 30 children, 9 are now living in poverty.
