The variant, which is a version of Omicron, has mutations that help it dodge protection from vaccination and prior infections
I'm James MacDonald with news that a new 'highly infectious' Covid strain is already behind one in 25 cases UK cases according to data. The strain, dubbed XBB.1.5, has spread rapidly in the US and looks to be doing the same over here. The variant, which is a version of Omicron, has mutations that help it dodge protection from vaccination and prior infections. Experts say the strain is a 'wakeup call' for the NHS but say there’s no indication that it causes more severe illness than earlier variants. For more care news stay with us here at Care Radio.
