Medics say unpaid carers are “missing link” in ME/CFS research

Carers without salaries, helping patients at home, have been hardly acknowledged

I'm John Warburton with news that unpaid carers are being largely ignored in research into helping people with ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
That’s according to a group of senior medical teachers and consultants, led by Siobhan O’Dwyer of University of Exeter. The BMJ (British Medical Journal) yesterday published their letter saying families who’ve helped research have been the “driving force” behind changes to testing and treatment. But the carers without salaries, helping patients at home, have been hardly acknowledged. They added, without the contribution of unpaid carers, the “puzzle” of how to improve ME or CFS will “always be missing a piece”. For more care related stories stay with us here at Care Radio.
