Extra funding for children’s social care in England

The programmes should give better early support for children, and above-inflation increases in foster carers’ allowances

I'm John Warburton with news that there’s been a cautious welcome to yesterday’s government announcement of an extra £200m for children’s social care in England. Criticism focuses on how several changes are localised pilots rather than national policies. The programmes should give better early support for children, and above-inflation increases in foster carers’ allowances. But, among other comments, NSPCC chief executive Sir Peter Wanless warns there won’t be major improvement without faster reforms, and better national investment.
