The Royal College of Nursing says the decision is “hugely disappointing” as nursing staff continue to be disproportionately affected by the virus as they face higher risk of exposure.
I’m Matt Rosser with news that special paid leave for NHS staff off work with Covid-related sickness is to be scrapped in England, at a time when two new variants are driving up infection rates. From 7th July, the staff terms and conditions section of the Covid workforce guidance will be withdrawn, meaning the immediate end to guaranteed sick pay for new episodes of the illness. The Royal College of Nursing says the decision is “hugely disappointing” as nursing staff continue to be disproportionately affected by the virus as they face higher risk of exposure. The Department of Health and Social Care said the guidance was “temporary” and that the changes were part of learning to live with Covid.
