9 million pounds of overpayments have been referred to the Department for Communities Debt Management branch
I'm Matt Jones with news that the work to recover Carer's Allowance overpayments from unpaid carers is affecting five thousand people in Northern Ireland. The BBC says nine million pounds of overpayments have been referred to the Department for Communities Debt Management branch since 2021. Overpayments of Carer's Allowance occur when the department is not updated on changes affecting a person's entitlement, but the DfC says when an overpayment happens because of its error or delay, then it won't pursue recovery.
