I'm John Warburton with news that a major healthcare watchdog is calling England’s health and care system “gridlocked”, and that access to care is “deteriorating”. In a new report released today, the Care Quality Commission adds that capacity in adult social care has reduced and unmet need has increased. It says only 2 in 5 people are able to leave hospital when they are ready to do so, and the delays are contributing to record-breaking waits in emergency departments. The watchdog’s leaders claim many of the problemts are linked to historical underinvestment and lack of sustained recognition and reward for the social care workforce. But it also says the crucial role of social care is now increasingly being recognised by healthcare leaders. For more care news stay with us here at Care Radio.
