Official guidelines say women should be offered a “choice” between medical or surgical abortion care before 24 weeks of pregnancy, but provision is patchy across England due to funding discrepancies. At the heart of the issue, according to experts, is that local NHS Integrated Care Boards that commission abortion services are, in some cases, not paying the going rate to the providers who care for patients.
