12,000 “become unpaid carers every day”

According to the University of Sheffield and the charity Carers UK, more than 4.3 million people in the UK started work as an unpaid carer for relatives or friends within a year

I'm John Warburton. The discovery that around 12,000 people become unpaid carers every day was one of the main messages heard during Carers’ Rights Day, yesterday. According to the University of Sheffield and the charity Carers UK, more than 4.3 million people in the UK started work as an unpaid carer for relatives or friends within a year. The charity says it wants the NHS and employers to routinely and systematically identify unpaid carers, and direct them to sources of support for their health and wellbeing. Chief Executive Helen Walker claims every sector, and families themselves, will see benefits if this happens.
