UK trial for cutting duration of MRI scans

Cutting the duration of MRI scans for suspected prostate cancer patients by a third would make the scans cheaper and more accessible.

I'm Matt Jones with news that cutting the duration of MRI scans for suspected prostate cancer patients by a third would make the scans cheaper and more accessible, without reducing their accuracy, according to the results of a UK trial. Currently a prostate cancer MRI scan consists of three stages. The trial showed that dropping one of the stages has no effect on the rate of diagnosis. This means the scans would be cheaper and could be more widely used. Over 52 thousand new prostate cancer cases are diagnoses in the UK every year - that's around a hundred and forty every day.
